Ora Pétrea [work in progress]. Ora, of the mouth and the mountain. Pétrea, of the geology of voice-bodies. This project involves the creation of a performance that emerges from the collaboration between what we have called ‘human’ and what we have called ‘stones’. In this way of working and thinking together, and from the perspective of Echo, we explore the possibilities of becoming stone and, in doing so, also becoming what might be voice and woman. Ora Pétrea is an attempt at sounding and speaking, questioning and reflecting on the narratives of utility, of voices and of languages within a capitalist-patriarchal system: what can be stone and voice? What possibilities do we have for listening and sounding? What can a voice and a body do? How can we speak to one another? In this convocation, sounds and fractured memories unfold in an attempt to be heard. This performance invites a lingual listening, a sonic magma, a dislocated word.
This performance forms part of Soledad Figueroa Rodríguez’s artistic and doctoral research within her research project ‘Re-vocalising Echo: constructing body-vocal feminist narratives based on post-humanist thought and practice’ / PhD in Theatre and Performance Studies, FLUL.
